There are so many books and as the old adage says, so little time. How do you choose what goes on your nightstand or in your book bag? Do you have a system for choosing what to read? I'd love to hear about what you're reading in the comments!

In this first installment of This Week's Read, I'm featuring a book I chose for two reasons:

1. I have read this author's books before and grew deeper in my relationship with Christ as a result

2. I was at a point in my life where the redundancy of the day-to-day was beginning to take its toll on me, and the added stress of life events wasn't helping my view of hope.

In swept Home, Elyse Fitzpatrick's newest work, reminding me that this isn't heaven.

It's not always easy to remember that, is it? In the daily routines of work, caring for others, fixing what isn't working, putting out the proverbial fires, and, well, life, our thoughts aren't usually on the life eternal we are promised as we follow Christ here on earth.

Elyse opened my eyes. In the midst of real trials this past year, it was a huge encouragement and help to be reminded that this isn't heaven, and we're not meant to find our ultimate fulfillment here on earth.

More than that, Home gave me a real picture of heaven, based on Jesus' words in Scripture. Our bucket lists here on earth look like a cardboard cutout by comparison to what's coming in the new heaven and the new earth.
